WELCOME TO THE STATION’S SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2022
(previous newsletters are available to download at the bottom of this page)
Spring didn’t really spring in the true sense this year with inclement weather, winds, rains, storms and sadly much flooding in certain parts of Australia, leaving lots of families homeless and doing it tough. Our hearts go out to them that they may soon be back in their homes with some degree of normalcy!
A word from the Chair…
With Christmas just around the corner, I guess everyone’s busy with shopping and making arrangements to catch up with family and loved ones, including interstate and farther afield.
Station volunteers have remained busy on many fronts – doing their shows, ensuring that all systems work so that we’re not off air, producing pre-recorded material like sponsorship and community services announcements, and a whole lot of other work, including general maintenance and gardening whilst ensuring that we’re all Covid-safe of course. Our sole trainer, Lee, has been flat-strapped training 3 new presenters – Robyn, Matt and Ashley – all ready to go and do their stuff behind the mic! I take this opportunity to thank our vollies – they keep the Station running!
Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year! Lorraine Darling – Chair
OUR SPONSORS continue to dig deep into their pockets to support the Station – even in the face of the current pandemic and the dollar being tight – Our sincere thanks to them all! Pauline R. Murray Accountants Wallaroo continue to sponsor the National Radio News each month as well as some run of the Station promos – Thank you Pauline and Team. Thank you to Maxima for sponsoring the local weather and the Gulf waters these past 3 months – so very much appreciated!
PROGRAMS – Totally Taz’s “Gig Guide” is proudly being sponsored by the Port Broughton Hotel. Catch Taz on Tuesdays 4-7pm…
Lorraine is presenting another great Country show on Sundays 8-11am – requests and call-outs welcome!
New presenter Matt (aka Dr. Bert’s Fabtabulous Funland) airs on Thursday nights, just before Retroman’s Ultimate 80’s! It’s getting heaps of FB Likes!
Tune in to “Blue” on Mondays 4-6pm – great drive-time show!
THE STATION’S 25 YEAR CELEBRATIONS did not go ahead as planned – unfortunately! Many people couldn’t commit to coming along due to previous engagements, others have indicated that they’re still hanging home for Covid reasons and so on. Perhaps we’ll have a better chance at celebrating our 26th!
To those vollies who put up their hands to make it happen – setting up, catering, decorating, sending out invitations etc – you never fail to amaze!
We went live from Moonta – outside the café in George Street on 1st October. Here are some of the OB Team – Mickey D, Butterfly, Hughesy – havin’ an absolute ball! – onyas!
We’re hoping to go live from the Copper Coast Cornish Festival and the Cavalcade of Cars in May 2023. Congratulations to the CC Cornish Festival on celebrating 50 proud years!
TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT: Four of the Station’s presenters – Taz, Barb, Kathy and Hughesy – represented the Station at the SACBA Conference on Fri 2nd and Sat 3rd September at the Lakes Resort, West Lakes. All reported it was a great success with the usual networking, information-sharing and of course some socialising. Unfortunately, we didn’t come away with a Bilby Award this year and work has already commenced on our submissions for the various categories for the 2023 Awards!
NEW EQUIPMENT: As a result of a generous grant from the CBF, we have purchased and installed a new telephone system and are yet to install the new hybrid system. The new Amp and other equipment is coming! Our sincere thanks to the CBF!
OUR WEBSITE is currently being worked on by Matt (aka Dr. Bert) – lookin’ great so far – check it out – see who’s on our Board! Read our Spring Newsletter – the Summer one is on its way…
We had our Chrissie/End of Year get-together on Tues 29th Nov in the courtyard– around 20 presenters/members came along and enjoyed a BBQ tea (Taz & Hibby were the super-chefs!), chicken platters, delicious Lions fruit cake, chips’n’dips, and scrumptious raspberry lammies (thanks to Lozz…). We were fabulously entertained by “Makin’ Tracks” – Sandy and Lyn kept us all boppin’ along to their songs, some sang along with them, others danced! All in all, a great evening with lots of chatter and catch-ups! Those who couldn’t make it – you missed a seriously good gig! Huge THANKS to our wonderful catering corps – Taz and K.Mac – you did us proud gals! Gotta also throw a huge THANKS to our sound techies – Hibby and Butterfly who set up GFM music to play when Sandy and Lyn took breaks! Oh! and Hibby did a complete clean-up of the courtyard that morning and again when the party was over – another huge THANKS to Hibby!
STOP PRESS!!! We have just been advised by the CBF that our Round 2 application was successful. We applied to purchase a new computer for Studio 1 and 2 speakers for our OB’s! YAY! Our sincere thanks to the CBF!
We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous 2023!
To you and yours from all of us at 89.3 GulfFM – we hope that you will stay tuned and don’t forget – we’re live-streaming!
Well folks! That’s it until our Autumn Newsletter in March 2023!

Here’s some important info to consider…

Not stopping there…..If you’ve got tech/IT skills with some time up your sleeve then consider volunteering your talents at the Station….You’ll be a valuable and an integral part of a group of vollies keeping your local radio station live to air! Think about it and contact us as per info below…!
Join us as a valuable Station Sponsor -If you’re a business, large or small – think seriously about promoting your goods and services on local radio. It’s very affordable. Give the Station a call now….one of the Sponsorship Team will organize to meet with you and before you know it your “promo” is being produced and going to air for our many listeners – locals and visitors – to hear what you have to offer! Sponsorship is vital to all community radio stations around the Country as a source of income, along with grants and fundraising activities.
Are you a sporting body or a community service group? Would you like the Station to promote any fundraising events you may be having? Consider having a Community Services Announcement read by our various presenters on their shows. It won’t cost you a cent, but you must be a non-profit organization. Get your information to the Station at least two weeks before your event takes place, that way lots of listeners will get to hear about it, more folk will be at your event and you’ll likely end up with some serious coin in your kitty!
